About Score
Nathan chose to compose a piece for a clip from Star Wars: The Force Awakens, showcasing his skill in capturing the essence of the iconic franchise. Inspired by the works of Bear McCreary, Ludwig Göransson, and John Williams, this composition aimed to evoke the same musical and tonal qualities that their soundtracks do to define the Star Wars universe. By analysing scores from The Mandalorian, Tales from the Galaxy's Edge, and the original trilogy, Nathan incorporated creative leitmotifs, orchestral bombasts, and dramatic approaches to create an epic and emotive piece.
The composition features a classic Hollywood vibe, courtesy of Spitfire Audio's "Abbey Road One Collection," reminiscent of Star Wars and Indiana Jones. The orchestra takes centre stage in bars 40-64, providing the framework for the piece. The introduction (bars 3-12) sets the tone with a grand, fantastical theme, while the subsequent section (bars 14-40) builds towards an epic orchestral climax.
Notable elements include the use of a piccolo to emphasize the otherworldly nature of the planet, a horn theme to convey Luke's strength, and a delicate oboe melody to depict Ray's awe. The composition reaches its peak intensity in bars 52-64, featuring fast woodwind passages and a dramatic finale. The result is a well-crafted piece that seamlessly complements the footage, demonstrating Nathan's ability to create a compelling score that enhances the on-screen drama.
