About Score

Nathan chose to compose a piece for a clip from the 1931 Dracula film, capturing the dark and mysterious tone of the classic horror movie. Drawing inspiration from iconic horror scores like The Shining, Misery, and the 1979 Dracula, Nathan's composition showcases his mastery of eerie and atmospheric music. The piece pays homage to the works of renowned composers, incorporating elements of Penderecki's De Natura Sonoris No.1, Shaiman’s discordant chords, and Williams' minor keys and dissonant harmonies.

Using Spitfire Audio's "Abbey Road One Collection" and "Bernard Herrmann" orchestral libraries, Nathan achieved a classic Hollywood sound with a dark, enigmatic tone reminiscent of Psycho and Vertigo. The composition is structured around seven significant moments in the film, evoking the sense of danger and foreboding that defines the horror genre.

Techniques such as prolonged G minor strings, bassoon, and timpani create a sense of unease, while irregular tension build-ups and menacing horn, trumpet, and trombone melodies heighten the sense of terror. Gentle, spooky Persian chords and misty air-like atmospheres add to the sense of uncertainty, mirroring the protagonist's fear as he approaches the castle.

While the composition effectively captures the film's atmosphere and tone, some transitions could be further refined to seamlessly link the pieces with the visual narrative. Nevertheless, Nathan's piece demonstrates his expertise in horror scoring, showcasing his ability to craft a haunting and suspenseful soundtrack that pays tribute to the masters of the genre.
