About Piece
Ella Augustin, a distinguished writer and producer at Iaya Productions, commissioned Nathan to compose a film score for her short film "Playing Cards." This composition is set to feature at five major film festivals in 2025, including the BFI London Film Festival, Sundance Film Festival, Raindance Film Festival, Toronto International Film Festival, and the Venice Film Festival.
Throughout the project, Ella and Nathan engaged in numerous detailed Zoom sessions, to meticulously ensure that each composition Nathan created perfectly encapsulated the essence of her film. Nathan not only met Ella's expectations but exceeded them. At the project's outset, he was tasked with drafting a list of rough conceptual ideas for the music. Remarkably, within just one week, Nathan had composed six out of the eight pieces, impressing Ella with their alignment to her vision. His intuitive understanding of the film allowed him to craft a score reminiscent of a British TV drama, offering an ambient drama style that suited the film exquisitely.
This project provided Nathan with the opportunity to explore unconventional instrumentation combined with traditional pop elements, allowing him to create a unique soundscape that diverged from traditional orchestral music. Ella was so impressed with his work that she expressed her intention to collaborate with him on her forthcoming project.
